In the last two decades, distributed generation has been growing gradually and renewables are now at the center of this growth. The cost of renewable energy such as solar and wind has reduced significantly primarily due to incentives, volume deployments, and technology improvements.
Given that the combination of renewables and energy storage are modular and more efficient than distributed fossil-based generators, micro-grids that combine renewables and energy storage are becoming widely acceptable in countries and areas that are under-served.
